You can easily spend a day exploring the pathways of Runswick Bay or a day down the beach. The best thing to do is to grab a takeaway sandwich from Sandside cafe, take a windbreak (the cafe sells them) and grab your plot on the beach for the day. The RNLI Lifeguards operate between June and September on our beach, so always keep an eye on their daily tide and safety notices.
Our local pub, The Royal Hotel is full of friendly staff, good pub food and a great selection of Spirits, Wines and Beers, teas and coffees. In the colder months, their roaring fire is a great place to sit near with a hot chocolate and a slice of cake.
At the top of the bank, we have the Runswick Bay Hotel, our other pub with a restaurant. While offering a daily menu in the Spring Summer season, they also offer breakfasts for non residents (you must book beforehand) It's very handy to pop in here for a drink if you're ever waiting for the bus as you can sit outside and watch it arrive in good time before you head for the bus stop!
Our local bus service is good. The X4 Arriva Bus Service generally runs every hour and with free wifi and leather seats, the ride is a pleasant one to Whitby which is 8 miles south of Runswick Bay or Saltburn / Middlesbrough to the North. The award winning Saltburn Farmers Market is definitely worth a visit if it falls on a date when you're here (approx 20 minutes away).
2 miles away in Staithes, you will find a Co-op small supermarket with a cash point, Costa coffee machine and lottery. They have newspapers and a good selection of everything you will need for your stay and are open till 11pm. In the nearby village of Hinderwell, we have our family butchers "Lyth's" and a petrol station and car garage.
There's a feast of tastes and experiences on the North York Moors coast, from beach barbecues and farmers' markets to the cafes and restaurants of Whitby. Land a mackerel, learn to cook, visit a smokehouse and eat seafood with a view – all on the glorious coast of the North York Moors National Park at Runswick Bay, Saltburn by the Sea, Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes.
